SYNOPSIS OF TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM.
The Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP) allows employers to hire foreign workers on a temporary basis when qualified Canadian citizens or permanent residents are not available.
Employers looking to hire a foreign worker must first apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). This assessment determines if the employer is allowed to hire a temporary foreign worker for the specific position.
