Last year, India's importance as a source of international students grew by 33.6 percent. This year, India, China, and the Philippines provided the most international students to Canada's post-secondary institutions.

The United States provided only 7,060 international students to Canada last year, less than the much smaller country of France which provided 16,725 international students in 2022 and came in fourth place. Despite its long border with Canada, the United Kingdom only provided 2,290 international students to Canada in 2022. Rounding out the top five most important sources of international students is Nigeria, which sent Canada 16,195 international students last year, up dramatically from 9,530 the previous year.
Canada is hoping to attract 1.45 million new permanent residents in the coming three years to meet the challenge of its massive labor shortage.
