Updates From the National Immigration & Citizenship Conference of Canada #NCIC2020

Nov 19, 2020 8:15AM - Marco Mendicino discusses the Canadian government’s efforts to help International students navigate international education during COVID-19. International students are given pathways even after their education so that they can stay in Canada as economic immigrants after their education.

The minister emphasized the importance of immigration for the Canadian economy stating that "Immigration is the key to our short-term economic recovery and long-term vision. When our population grows, our economy grows, and we all benefit".

Communities with the most immigration usually see the fastest growth. The focus is to bring immigrants to smaller cities through provincial pilots and the Atlantic immigration programs.

1 in 2 businesses with employees is owned by an immigrant. "Immigrants are essential for Canada’s economic recovery post-pandemic and to fill gaps that existed even before the economy", the minister said.
