Can International Students Apply and Create a Profile for Express Entry?

International students in Canada can apply for Express Entry. The Canadian government recognizes the value of international students and their potential contributions to the country's economy and society. Studying in Canada provides students with an opportunity to gain Canadian education, language skills, and work experience, which can significantly enhance their eligibility for Express Entry. Upon completing their studies, international students may be eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), allowing them to gain valuable Canadian work experience. The work experience acquired through the PGWP can earn them additional points in the Express Entry system, improving their chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency. By meeting the eligibility criteria and obtaining the required points, international students in Canada can certainly apply for Express Entry and pursue their path to Canadian permanent residency.

Can Your Work Experience While Studying in Canada Increase Your CRS Score?

The question is: Can your work Experience while studying in Canada increase your CRS score?

The work experience that you gained while being a full-time international student in Canada can be counted towards meeting the minimum eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker program provided it’s paid and continuous and you meet other requirements of the program. HOWEVER, the experience gained while you were a full-time student in Canada does not count towards the CRS scores that are used to rank your profile in the express entry. The Co-op work experience that you gained while being an international student in Canada doesn’t add up to your CRS score. HOWEVER, the work experience that you gained OUTSIDE Canada while studying full-time can add up to your points for foreign work experience in the CRS provided the experience meets the TEER and other requirements.

What is the Comprehensive Ranking System Score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is a crucial factor in the Express Entry system for Canada's immigration. It is a points-based system that assesses the eligibility of candidates based on factors such as age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and adaptability. The CRS score determines an applicant's rank within the Express Entry pool, with higher scores indicating a higher likelihood of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency. Candidates can improve their CRS score by enhancing their qualifications or by obtaining additional points through provincial nominations or a valid job offer.
