INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY PROGRAM

PATHWAY TO WORK IN CANADA

SYNOPSIS OF INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY PROGRAM.

The International Mobility Program (IMP) allows foreign workers to work temporarily in Canada without obtaining a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

For foreign workers, it provides a pathway to gain valuable work experience in Canada, which can improve their future job prospects and develop new skills.

For Canadian employers, it enables them to hire skilled workers from around the world without having to go through the lengthy process of obtaining an LMIA, which reduces the administrative burden and allows businesses to quickly fill in labour shortages.

If you’re unsure of how to begin your immigration journey, our team offers a consultation service where we can evaluate your unique circumstances and recommend the most suitable immigration options for you. Our focus on personalized solutions ensures that every client receives the highest level of service and support throughout their immigration journey.

01

International Agreements

Canada has entered into various international agreements to promote economic, cultural, and social ties with other countries.

These agreements allow for the temporary entry of foreign workers without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

Some examples of these agreements are:

  • North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)

  • Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)

  • Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)

02

Canadian Interests Exemptions

Canada has a list of specific occupations and circumstances that qualify for work permits under the Canadian InterestS Exemptions.

These exemptions are based on the country's economic and social interests, such as supporting key industries or addressing labour shortages in certain regions.

Some examples of these exemptions include:

  • Intra-Company Transferees

  • Significant Benefit

  • Francophone Mobility Programs

03

LMIA Exemptions

LMIA Exemptions under the International Mobility Program aim to promote international trade and investment by allowing temporary entry of foreign workers without a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

However, certain categories of foreign workers are exempt from this requirement under the IMP.

These include individuals covered by international agreements, Canadian Interest Exemptions, and certain types of work permits such as intracompany transferees and temporary workers in select occupations.
